Power distribution system and related challenges in Electric Arc Furnaces

The Green Steel initiative is resulting in the move from fossil fuel-based to electrical energy-based steel production. This change leads to a few challenges related to increase in the electrical power usage by manifold. Additionally, this electrical power needs to come from renewable source of energy.

This paper explains the pros and cons of all the design aspects and the implications with a view to help a user not only optimize the CapEx but also reduce downtime and maintenance costs in new power-based furnaces.
